Inquirer 2.0 Design System

Inquirer 2.0 | Design System

Project Overview

In May 2019, we started a partnership with Upstatement, a Boston-based design and engineering studio. We worked with them through the summer to gain insights about who we are, where we are, and where we want to go. In September, Upstatement presented a new vision for our digital products.

But how would we build this new vision? Where do we start?

01. Design Audit

In February 2019, I did a design audit of our current website and it was pretty clear we lacked consistency in our UI across the whole product.

02. Design System Workshop

In September 2019, we traveled to Boston and conducted a day-long workshop at our design partner’s office. At the workshop, we worked on:

  • Comparative analysis of other design systems

  • Defined the scope, depth, breadth of our future design system

  • Audit of current website and identified components and opportunities to build

From there, our team was able to act as consultants as they began helping us build the design system. We identified components to build, prioritized, and worked through all of the use cases and patterns.

Cards

The core of our new product vision is a card-based feed. This makes these cards the most important part of our design system.
